Hygiene Maintenance at Bronx Dental

Routine Adults & Children Dental Cleanings

Routine dental exams are a big part of maintaining healthy smiles in your family. Bronx Dental encourages you to keep your routine dental cleanings every six months to prevent excess plaque and tartar build up. Along with routine dental cleanings for adults and children, Bronx Dental provides a comprehensive dental exam. At each exam, we check for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and other potential problems that require treatment. X-rays of your mouth may also be taken at the time of your routine dental cleaning. Schedule your next routine dental cleaning with our dental hygienists at Bronx Dental to maintain the healthy smile you deserve.

Sealants

Bronx Dental provides patients with any preventative measure against tooth decay. Along with routine brushing and flossing, as well as your six-month routine hygiene visit, you may be able to get dental sealants to help prevent cavities. A dental sealant is a thin plastic coating that is painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth that quickly bonds into the depressions and grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the teeth enamel. Sealants are usually applied to the back teeth, molars and premolars to protect the vulnerable areas from tooth decay by sealing out plaque and food for up to 10 years. If you have any additional questions about sealants or sealant procedures please feel free to give us a call and one of our friendly staff members will provide you with the answers to all your oral health care needs.

Fluoride

Fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in many foods and water. Fluoride also reverses early decay through the process of remineralization, otherwise known as depositing minerals that were lost in our mouth, strengthening our teeth. This is why fluoride is essential to our oral health, and Bronx Dental wants to help you prevent tooth decay from acidic attacks from plaque, bacteria and sugars in your mouth. In children under six years of age, fluoride becomes incorporated into the development of permanent teeth to provide the necessary strength they need in tooth enamel development. Fluoride treatments can help battle dry mouth and aid in fighting bacteria in the later stages of gum disease. Bronx Dental provides fluoride treatments that can also help in the event that you need to receive crowns, bridges, and braces by preventing decay around the bracket structures, underlying teeth, and surrounding teeth.  If you have any questions about fluoride, fluoride supplements, or extra fluoride treatment, talk to one of our dentists or contact us today.

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and rooth planing (SRP) is often referred to as a deep cleaning by our professionals here at Bronx Dental.  Scaling and root planing cleans between the gums and your teeth down to the roots. This deep cleaning is usually done due to hardened plaque that forms tartar. Plaque and tartar can harm your gums if they are not removed. This can lead to inflamed and infected gums, also known as gingivitis. The infection can create deep pockets in your gums or cause your gums to recede or pull back. This exposes the roots of your teeth and allows bacteria to grow below the gum line, causing decay. If you have any questions about scaling and root planing to prevent gum disease, contact Bronx Dental today.
