Oral Cancer Awareness

Oral Cancer Awareness | 5 Facts Everyone Needs to Know

April 26, 2019 Bronx Dental, Oral Health, Uncategorized

An Oral Cancer screening is quick, easy and painless and can ultimately save your life. Have you had an oral cancer screening recently? At Bronx Dental, oral cancer awareness is important to us. As Oral Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to educate our community on some of the facts behind this disease. Here are 5 facts you should know about oral cancer:

1. Oral Cancer Can Be Sneaky

Although many oral issues present themselves with pain, oral cancer can be different. In its early stages, it can manifest painlessly. As a result, it can prosper without being recognized.

2. Late Discovery Is Harmful

Although this form of cancer is not in itself more dangerous than others, its tendency to go unnoticed is very harmful. For this reason, Bronx Dental offers thorough oral cancer screenings to identify early signs of this disease.

3. Oral Cancer Can Produce Tumors

As oral cancer progresses past the early stages, it is more likely to produce primary and secondary tumors. Therefore, these tumors pose a more serious threat to one’s health. People who have oral cancer are 20x more likely to develop a 2nd form of cancer as a result. An oral cancer screening is the first step to ensuring that you can also protect your mouth from other forms of cancer.

4. Age and Tobacco Use are Correlated to Oral Cancer Development

Historically, oral cancer mostly occurs in individuals over the age of 40. Tobacco use in the form of cigars, cigarettes, and chewing tobacco have all shown to greatly increase the risk of oral cancer as well. In fact, tobacco users make up over 75% of the individuals diagnosed with oral cancer over the age of 50.

5. Early Detection is the Best Method

Since oral cancer can go unnoticed so easily, Bronx Dental recommends that everyone should visit their dentist for a routine cleaning and checkup. In order to prevent any signs of cancer from spreading, we offer oral cancer screenings with your comprehensive treatment to help you receive the care you need.
